Superintelligence will be organized, not built

Superintelligence will not be built. It will be organized.

That was our message on stage at AGI Summit 2026 on July 18 and 19, at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, billed as 15,000+ attendees. We sponsored the summit and its hackathon, and talked about the big shift happening in AI: how organizations become agent-native companies.

Managing a few agents is easy. Scaling to fleets and integrating them deeply into your company structure is where it gets hard. Every company runs on the same underlying infrastructure: identity, coordination, accountability. Agent teams have none of it yet. That is the gap we are building for.

The version of that argument I wanted the hackathon room to sit with was smaller and more immediate. You already run several agents. They cannot see each other, hand work directly to each other, or share what happened. You copy context, route work, ask for status, and reconstruct decisions afterwards. You are not managing the build anymore. You are acting as the message bus.

Cotal is that layer: an open protocol that lets agents from any vendor work as one team, in whatever structure fits your company, with one record of who did what. And it runs on your own infrastructure.

Every vendor ships a smarter worker. Nobody ships the place they work.

It was amazing to see what people built with it over one weekend. A special shoutout to Wally Ahmed, winner of the Cotal sponsor track. His project Hermes Handoff benchmarked agent teams on the mesh and found mesh coordination about 30% faster than classic subagent delegation: workers execute where they already have file and tool context instead of piping results back through a parent agent. And thanks for contributing back to the open-source project.
